Dinner in Chania: Where locals go to eat and dine.

   Chania is a wonderful region  for locals as well as tourists. There are many places you can dine  and enjoy a romantic dinner in Chania. Our municipality is also a great place to enjoy a business meeting in town , or just enjoy a meal by the side, in one of our many beach shore or beachfront restaurants around chania.

  In this useful article we will give you information about the areas locals usually go and dine, in order to blend in with our island culture and people. On top of that, usually where locals go, prices are better, you get a better food quality, as well as enjoy the relaxation and tranquility our island offers. 

  Dinner in Chania: Where locals don’t go.

   We will start this presentation with some places locals have as a second alternative and they don’t prefer that much. Chania old harbour is top on this list. Greeks love to enjoy their coffee on the beachfront cafeterias and shops that are in abundance all over the old Venetian Harbour. However, when coming into dining, Greeks usually prefer other places, and this is due to the fact that most of the shops are geared for tourists, they don’t serve authentic food, and usually the prices (because of the lovely views) are more expensive than normal. 

  Places for beer-ouzo and other snacks in Chania.

    Greeks also love to have small snacks alongside their beer, ouzo or our island’s homemade raki. You will certainly see locals in Splantzia Square just a minute away from the old Venetian harbour. There are plenty of shops there, in order for you to drink , dine and blend in with the locals and enjoy your dinner in Chania. 

   Koum -Kapi area is a favourite choice of locals for a quick coffee and snack, and this area is far east of the old Venetian Harbour. For more information about this small 5 minute walk you can find by asking friendly locals.

   If you want to enjoy a quick snack with no fuss and in complete silence, we recommend visiting Chalepa Area, and Chalepa Harbour. This area is only 2 km away from town centre facing east, and it’s a 5 minute drive by car. There is a small number of shops and you can enjoy a traditional meze (a small snack, as Greeks say) there. Some shops offer complete privacy and impeccable sea views as well as traditional service and taste.

   A place however that is always packed with locals near the town centre is Nea Chora Harbour. Nea Chore in Greek means literally, “New Town” and it is only a kilometer West from Chania Old Town. It offers sea views as well as many traditional Greek taverns that serve delicious fish plates. We recommend choosing fish from those shops as those are all beachfront just a breath away from the famous Nea Chora beach, where you can also enjoy a nice swim.

  Α highly advanced and also highly touristic places in Hania are Agia Marina and Platanias. There are plenty of hotels, studios, villas as well as shops in those areas in which a vast majority of travelers can be found. However, there are many beach bars and shops that locals always prefer to go to as there are years in this business and are very well known to locals for a dinner in Chania.
